What do you consider yourself?
feminist
In the light of herarchies and women leading their own private wars with each other-or little skirmishes on the jobmarket I sometimes feel quite split up with regards to feminism.

However, I understand that you have to look at it from a rather scholarly point of view and that the overall structures shapes relationships among people as well--and who, by the way, claimed that among men there is always fair- play?
However, even though we have a female chancellor there still needs to be done a lot in Germany. There is not an equal amount of women in the parliaments or in the ministries. A unviversity is usually administered by a male centred staff. At the local council level feminism has, for several reasons, not yet yielded enough fruits.
Especially women who have young kids and need to work ususally have little to no time to develop their extra curricular skills and take part in voluntary activities.

hey. sorry it has taken me so long to write back. been crazy busy. yes I am totally excited that my kids are into the political thing. my daughter who is 7 is still really upset that she can't vote and has plenty of well thought out arguments about why she should be able too. They get into the debates.

The whole thing about competive women. I agree that a level of competition is healthy as long as it doesn't become self destructive or parasitic. I just watched this awsome docum. about women in Heavy metal and it was very interesting to here about what each woman thought about competing, in a music scene dominated by very masuline ideas. It was great! I think by competing and trying to sound deep and gutural, male like in some of their singing they tried out lots of things and broke some ground.

As far as being a mom goes, it is very diff. how it spreads out to other areas of your life. I think that what you show and teach your kids is very important. I think it is imp. to be a politicaly involved parent, but society dosen't necess. see you as that because they focus on lots of other crap. My kids are well behaved and kind. Plus they are all their own and have been a blast to get to know. I don't know if that exactly answered the Q . take care and I hope to talk more soon

Yes Two Ton Boa is quite amazing. When I worked a stint at Kill Rock Stars I got to talk to them a bit and S. is very smart. I really like their videos, very political. I am very excited that you started the book discussion. Hope your studies go well. I have to tell you about my kids, well 2 of them at least. They love politics. they are especially interested in this years elect. They are 10 and 6 and both upset they can't vote. My daughter wanted Hillary simply for being a woman. Now they both want Obama because they like how he funded his campaign and how he speaks. We had a chance to see him at a rally. They were so into it....Take care

Thanks.
And yes, my parents went with the German spelling of Summer. Of course, it wasn't until years and years later that we all found this out.
