I would like to try to organize a ladyfest east. I'm not sure exactly what kind of work or funding it entails or how big of a job it is, but I would still like to try. Does anyone have suggestions, links, information, etc for me? Has anyone here organized one before? Is it a crazy feat to take on? Also, how much time should I allow in advance for organizing it? I have a very busy life as it is, so I'm a little hesitant about trying to do this, but I'm also sad about the lack of ladyfests lately!! Again, I don't know much about it- I kind of went to one years ago, but I just went to workshops.

Thanks for any and all help!

P.S. Is there any way to change my username on this? I hate it! :-P

Disclaimer: I have never organized anything like this before, so I'm far from an expert...this is totally conjecture and what I think I'd do if I were organizing.

I think with any festival, the first thing you have to do is find a venue. I don't know where abouts you want to have your ladyfest, but check around large open parks, convention centers, faire grounds, etc. That way you can get an idea of how much it's going to be to rent the venue.

Next I think, unless you have a ton of money socked away, you'd have to raise money for the rent and such. Solicit donations, hold fund raisers, stuff like that.

Then you'd have to find speakers, vendors, bands, whatever it is you want to have at your ladysfest. And there's advertising, getting the word out there.

Like I said, I've never done anything like this before, but that's just how I think I'd go about it. After poking around on Google a little bit, I also found this Myspace blog.

Where are you thinking about holding this ladyfest? I might be able to help if you're nearby. :)

Oh, and for changing your username, I think it's under settings in that box on the right side of the page that has your name, your inbox link, etc.

I will definitely research it, thanks!

Right now I'm living in Colorado, but I'm making the move to New York within a couple months. I see that you're in New York also so we should definitely try to organize one of those sometime in the future. Hopefully it can come into fruition sometime.

Where abouts in NY are you moving to? I'm not to far outside Syracuse. There's a convention center downtown that they're trying to attract more attention too, so that's an option that would probably be open...for a one or two day thing there's a very large park that sometimes holds festivals like CNY's Pagan Pride Days...Um, there's a hotel too that I think can accommodate a small to medium sized event...Rochester and Buffalo probably have convention sites too, I'm just not as familiar with those cities. That's probably it for central NY...Northern NY there might be something in Watertown, but I kind of doubt it. Binghamton should have places, and I'd assume Albany too. I have no idea about NYC or northeastern NY.
