I'm doing a research project on the riot grrrl movement. Part of my research is to conduct a survey. I'm trying to figure out where the riot grrrl movement has settled and maybe why some areas don't have as large of a following as others. 1. How many riot grrrls do you know in your area? Only a few, and one riot boy (<3)

2. How many female fronted or all female bands are in your area? About 2 that I know of.

6. What drew you to riot grrrl? Music I could relate to and it has taught me alot and given me a greater understanding about women and myself.

6. What drew you to riot grrrl?
I first heard Le Tigre and just liked how it sounded, then I started thinking about a lot of the lyrics, and doing a substantial amount of reading. So, music I guess.

7. How often are there punk rock shows at local venues in your area?

- Me. One.

2. How many female-fronted bands are in your area?
- I know for sure there are two. There must be more, I just don't know about them.

3. Where do you live?
- I live in the fair city of Chicago.

4. What state do you live in?
-I live in the great state of Illinois.

5. Do you or anyone you know publish a zine?
-No. I'm thinking about starting one, because there seems to be a lack of them. There are zines sold at my friendly neighborhood record store, but I don't know who makes them.

6. What drew you to riot grrrl?
-The first time I ever heard about Riot Grrrl was in a book I read about the band Babes in Toyland. There was a picture of Jessica Hopper, with a caption saying that she interviewed the band for her zine "Hit It or Quit It". Out of curiosity I started to research it, and there were a few things that got me interested. 1. The sense of history it had. 2. The positive attitude it promotes. 3. The activism it promotes. 4. The fact that there are no very strict guidelines on what is and what is not riot grrrl. It means something different to everyone. 5. It was some of the first exposure I've had to hard and fast ideas about women in music, which I had thought about before, but never very deeply.

7. How often are there punk rock shows at local venues in your area?
-Since it's a big city, I would suppose at least a few times a week.

1. How many riot grrrls do you know in your area?
A girl friend of mine is into a bit. I know a few punk-indie people who like grrrl bands and/or are interested in the movement.. I would exactly call them riot grrrls or boys though.

2. How many female fronted or all female bands are in your area?
I've "seen" about a handful of female fronted co-ed bands. Know of more. There's a few all female bands I know of.

3. Where do you live?
Detroit.

Michigan.

I know someone who publishes an underground music zine.
I've submitted a few things to a grrrl zine.

6. What drew you to riot grrrl?
The music, strength, empowerment, feeling like I could relate.

It varies, sometimes I go to at couple shows a week, sometimes I go to once a month or month every other month.
It depends on my finances, but there's ALWAYS something going on. Detroit's got a pretty strong independent community.

I know a lot of other feminist people, many of them female, many queerfeminsts, but none of them calls herself a riot grrrl.

2. How many female fronted or all female bands are in your area?
I have no idea. I live in Berlin. There are soooooo many different bands here. I'm sure there are quite a few female fronted ones.

I'm planning on publishing one, soon, it's like half ready.

6. What drew you to riot grrrl?
I've been into queerfeminism for quite a while already. Especially since I started studying gender studies. I got to know about the riot grrrl movement in a seminar on subcultures. It immediatly caught my attention, I started to read stuff about it, make a presentation on it in that seminar, researched more, found online riot grrrl communities and quickly fell in love with riot grrrl.

a. once a week

there r a few at my school..that i know of but other than that, i know none. everyone i ask about riotgrrrl theyve never heard of it except my friend sean lol

i have no idea. i know this one girl who plays drums in a band but thats about it.

i cant remember.. the first time i saw the video for Pretend We're Dead by L7 was when i was 13 and i was completely blown away. i thought it was so cool and have never seen anything like it before. further down the track a friend of mine got me more into them and Babes In Toyland and it just evolved from then

A few. Many friends of mine are feminists, anyway.

Time ago my best friend was the frontwomen of a glam metal band. But now they don't play any more. I have a few a friends (girls) who play, but not in a band.

Not really. I started something similar to a 'zine, about two times, but it didn't work. People are not interested to Grrrlzines, here.

6. What drew you to riot grrrl?
Courtney Love. I knew her because of Avril Lavigne when I was 12, and I fallen in love with her music the first time I heard ''Mono''. So I bought her album, I started listening to Hole... and now, here I am lol

7. How often are there punk rock shows at local venues in your area?
I don't know. Some friends of mine have bands but nobody who plays punk rock. Only classic rock, metal or similar. Times ago, my boyfriend wanted to cover ''city of angels''. this was the punkrockest thing lol
