Hi all!

I've noticed that quite a few Riot Grrrl members are musos. So what does everyone play? Any people have bands playing around town? And the big big big question... If you could only cover ONE song and ONE song only, what song would you choose?

A tricky question I know... So tricky I don't know if I can even answer that myself! But let's just have a quick rumage through my head...

"Touch-a, touch-a, touch-a touch me" from the Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Classy.

One song? I'd get all mellodramatic and do Pearl Jam's "Black"

Instumentally speaking...I play drums and violin. Not at the same time though, I'm working on it...

Ha ha, that would be great though! You could learn to hold your drumsticks with your feet!

I play drums in two bands - myspace.com/thetwofunerals and myspace.com/hostile17va
Both of them play around my town a lot - TTF have been together for four years now so we've gotten pretty popular around the area.

We've actually covered a lot of songs, three Sleater-Kinney ones, lol! So it's hard to choose one.

Hello fellow-musos :)
My name's Nat.
I live in Miami Beach, FL.
I play guitar a sing.

I'm currently in the process of starting a(nother) band... Used to be in one on New York... Style: punk and alternative. Someone asked me once, "punk like Avril Lavigne?" No surprise, it was a boy. Punk like that pop fluff-meister is saying "oh, you mean pink like green?" There is no similarity whatsoever!
Rock on soul sisters!
Peace, love and respect,
Your feminist freind.,
Nat (Hey. check out my "ning" website at http://ucinat.ning.com) Thanks!

About the cover song... I'd probably play "Rebel Girl" by bikini Kill.

Oh, "punk like Avril Lavigne"... 'shudder'. It really pisses me off that the music industry can get away with shit like that. Marketing someone as "punk" when that's not who they are at all, and then completely missing the point as to what punk is really all about. Grrrr. Flea mad. Flea smash!

I played the recorder for quite a few years. Sadly I had to quit - my teacher and I never liked eachother but things got worse and worse. There are no other teachers in the area. That was around 5 years ago.

I already started to play the whistle and flute while I was still playing recorder.. but I got more into them after I quit.

I also took up piano 4 years ago. I really really love it, but I'm afraid I'll have to quit at the end of this year. I'm going to move out, and there's no way I could afford piano lessons or even an EP. My piano will stay at my parents' house. I can bring my other instruments with me.. but most roommates / landlords aren't very happy with instruments.

And about the song? Probably a Janis Joplin song. Piece of my heart, Kozmic Blues, Get it while you can.. maybe Mary Jane. Or a Pogues song.

Hey ^_^ i play guitar/piano and a tiny bit of bass.
I haven't got a band together as of yet =[[
if i had to cover one song I would cover 'My Way', the Sid Vicious version of course!! I think it would be an awesome experience to be heard by an all-girl band!!

I just started my piano/keyboard lessons, and apparently I am progressing at a good pace. I have loved to sing since I was little, but only recently began voice lessons(same teacher as piano). I've always loved music and have had an urge to create since I was born. It's been a wonderful experience to combine those two. Also worth noting I've been writing songs for a while, but haven't managed to make anything decent. -__-

And I'm not in band, because I am a beginner and thus currently suck. :P

If I could cover one song...that's a hard one. Really hard. I think I might do a punk rock version of My Junk from Spring Awakening. It's sorta popy but I love it.

I've played guitar for a few months now(About two, I think).

I've played school instruments for most of my life, though. I use to play violin, saxo, and clarinet(I finally pawned that sucker). *But I had no drive to pick them up and play when I wasn't taking lessons.

I sing. But I can't sing professionally. But since I feel I have something very relevant to say, I don't care about that. I just sing.

Oooh. A cover song. Wow. That's hard. I have a few covers lined up that i'd like to do, eventually. First of all, though, I wouldn't do your standard covers. There are two ways you can cover a song. 1) Sounds exactly like the original, maybe with like instruments, maybe not and 2) Sounds completely different. I'd go for number two, personally, cause I always like to create new things..

I'd choose Billie Holiday's Strange Fruit, but i'd turn it into something ultra dark. It'd be *nothing like the original.

I'm not currently in a band, but i'd like to be.

Hi there!

I'm about to get together some friends to have my own riot grrrl band and to talk to them about the whole movement because they haven't herad of it before... We're obviously starting with covers from clasical riot grrrl bands but the one that i'm really excited to make is "imaginary friend" by Excuse 17 or maybe if someday i figured out the guitar from "bull in the heather" by sonic youth i will definitely do it!!!!
